CHILDREN’S WORK

Letter to my friend

Dear Caroline,

How are you?  I hope that you are having a great time in Gozo.  Today we had Sports Day at our school and I would like to tell you about it. Our Sports day is always held in May.  Our Sports day was held in a big play ground near our school. There were our parents who came to watch us.  We participated in many games and we really did great work.  We had to take part in 7 games: these were basketball slalom, hand ball and many more.  Well, our new PE teacher, Ms.Steffi was really good to work with all of us.  We were divided into four groups: red, blue, yellow and green. When Sports Day was over, we went back to school where we were all treated to a delicious ice-cream.  We also got a certificate of participation. Then we were all called to go to the school yard so that we will see who had won the trophy.  Our PE teacher started calling out the total number of points that each group got.  I prayed and prayed that we will win and at last they started calling the winners.  The wining team was the yellow team.  I was so happy that I started shouting with all my other team friends. I never imagined that we would win but when we held the trophy I realised that we had really won. The trophy was decorated with a yellow bow and it will stay in the school corridor on a shelf for all all to see.  I wish that next year you will be able to come to our school and watch our Sports day.

Imagine that you are a borrower

If you see me, you might think that you are dreaming but you wouldn’t be as we are the Borrowesr! We are tiny people who measure up to 4 cm and the biggest one of us is as big as a baby’s hand.

We mostly live in a group which is our family. We like to live where there are lots of things to borrow.  In a house, perhaps we are even creeping in your house.  If some of your things have gone missing, you may have one of us living in your comfortable house.  You would be jealous because we do not have to pay for anything, but we have to create clothes and everything else we own.  The problem about being small is that you have a lot of obstacles.  One of the greatest is going up the stairs, oh and going up tables and getting heavy objects.  Speaking about objects, we have to make everything and it takes a lot of time to produce something small because our hands are tiny.

At night, when you are all asleep, we all work together, like standing on top of each other to climb on desks and even going upstairs to get everything we need.  We all know animals can bite and they all can chew us.  Yuck!  So if we meet one, we will definitely try to hide where they will not be able to smell us, such as in the toaster.  We all like fresh air and when you see the outside door move that would be us pushing or pulling the strong door.  Sometimes we get lost in this enormous house of yours.

I think that being a borrower is great and it is very nice to go on an adventure but my mum says that I’m still young.  So, if you happen to see one of us, please keep it a secret.  Shhhh!!!

Simona Gauci. Junior 5

I am a cat.

I am a cat and my name is Fluffy.  My colour is black and I have a lot of fur.  I live in a very big and comfortable house. My owner is a young family with two children. My favourite place in the house is in the back yard as I can play and run after birds and sometimes even some mice.  My owner really takes care of me well and he gives me delicious food to eat.  At night I sleep in my owner’s room as it is very comfortable. When I wake up, I always have some milk and some dried food.  My owners take me to the vet every six months.  In the same house where I live, there is also a dog that lives in a kennel in the garden.  Every Saturday, we all go for a picnic in the countryside.  I am very happy to be living with this family  as they treat me very well just like they treat all the other members of the family.

Larken Apap.  Junior

Imagine that you are a borrower

We are a furry family of rodents and we call ourselves the Borrowers.  We live in an abandoned mouse hole that is on a farm.

We eat the vegetables and fruit that the farmer grows and we drink water from his dog’s water bowl.  When we eat a lot of the farmer’s vegetables and fruit, we hear him shout.  We wear dolls’ clothes that we find in the garbage.  My family and I have a bed which we made out of matchsticks and match boxes.  Instead of mirrors, we use broken glass.  Our plates are made of old Coca Cola tops.  We like to eat vegetables but once a week we visit the farmer’s house and look for other food.  At times, we even go on the bus and visit other houses in other villages.  From here we take cheese, meat and we also drink some fizzy drinks.

From houses we also take needles to use for our protection, small pencils for writing letters, a dolls’ house rug to use in our house and dolls’ chairs for us to sit on.

One of our fears is when we go out at night as we meet our biggest enemy, the owl.  Owls always try to catch us and when they do, they gobble us.  We also get soaked immediately with one rain drop when it starts raining.  We are also afraid of human beings as these sometimes squash us or else we are blown away by the wind or by a strong fan.

I wish to become a human being because I think I would not have the same dangers that I have now as a borrower.

My Mother

My Mother’s name is Miriam.  She was born on the 29th November, 1964. She has been married to my father for twenty years. We all live together in a peaceful villa. Her eyes are brown and her hair is blond.  My mother seems to know a lot about psychology, philosophy and mathematics.  Her character is very lively but she is also very caring.  My mother’s working hours are from eight in the morning till two in the afternoon.  Her favourite food is spaghetti.  Her favourite sport is swimming and English is the language she likes best.  She sometimes has to travel to other countries to work.  My mother is a chemist at Mater Dei Hospital.  My mother’s life long dream is to go on a long magnificent cruise.  My mother and I get on really well.  When I go to heaven I wish that I will still be next to my mother.  I am always going to do my best to help my mother in everything she needs.  I hope and wish that nothing will separate me from my mother.

My Birthday Party.

I started off the day by having a special birthday breakfast and opening some presents.  We then went to our car and we drove to a surprise place.  This was a nature reserve and here I met my cousins.  We saw some butterflies, a big field, flowers and some prickly plants.  We went to the beach to fly a kite but then it got stuck and we had a good laugh trying to pull it down.  We had a lovely meal in a restaurant outside near the sea and for dessert we had ice-cream.  Last of all we went to the cinema and watched a funny film.  This was my best birthday party ever!.

Nicholas Conrad.  Junior 2

My Birthday Party.

Next December I am going to be seven years old and I am planning my birthday party.  I want to have my party at home, in our big basement.  I wish to invite all my classmates and my cousins.  My mum is going to bake my cake.  At my party we are going to play a lot of games and have great fun.

My Birthday Party.

When I was seven years old, I had a birthday party.  I invited my classmates.  My mother made me a birthday cake.  I had seven candles on my cake.  We also decorated the house with balloons and colourful papers.  I really enjoyed my party.

 25th Anniversary (1985-2010)

Dear Parents, students and Friends

Our second newsletter for this scholastic year is here already.  This term is an extremely busy one and we have a number of very exciting activities and projects going on at school.

 E.S.B.

On Tuesday, 10th and Wednesday, 11th March, we had the English Speaking Board Examination sessions at our school.  This year we had 50 students sitting for these examinations who all prepared a variety of interesting topics.  The students were from Junior 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.  The examiners were very impressed with the high level of work presented as well as by the students’ performance.  Even the newcomers from Junior 1 put up extremely good presentations.  In fact, we had a record number of distinctions.  Well done to all the students for their great participation and well done also to the teachers and parents who helped prepare the students.

NSTF-MCAST Science Art Contest.

The Junior 4s and 5s took part in a Science Art Contest organised by NSTF-MCAST.  The main aim of this contest is to encourage young students to express their idea of science in a creative manner through Art and to learn more about simple scientific topics, as they reflect upon them, to produce their art work.  The Junior 4s and 5s later visited the exhibition which was held at Villa Bighi where they could see some of their paintings as well as those of children from other schools exhibited.

CHILDREN’S WORK

My Birthday Party.

Last year I celebrated my seventh birthday by having a fantastic party.  My mum and dad threw a party for me and I invited my friends.  My parents decorated the house with balloons and streamers. My mum and dad prepared plenty of food and drinks.  They also baked a delicious cake for me and put seven candles on it. My friends and I played games and danced to loud music.  They sang “Happy Birthday” for me when I cut the cake.  My mum, dad and friends gave me presents and I was eager to unwrap the presents. I thanked my parents for the party and thanked my friends for coming to my party.

Winter.

Winter is the coldest season.  The weather is often windy and rainy.  Sometimes we have hail and thunder storms.  We have longer nights in winter because it gets dark earlier.  We wear thick clothes and we stitch on the heaters to feel warm.  People cannot swim so they go out walking in the countryside when it is fine weather.  Some birds fly to warmer countries. Some insects hibernate and some even die.  We prefer to stay cosy inside.  I like this season very much because I enjoy watching and listening to the rain.

Patrick Bezzina. Junior 3

At the Farm

In the nearby village, there is a huge farm.  Last Sunday my family and I went to visit this farm.  The farmer and his wife were waiting for us near the front door.  There were lots of animals on the farm.  The farmer was milking the cows.  The flock of sheep were eating the green grass.  All the horses were in a stable.  The hens were laying eggs and the farmer was very pleased with them. The farm animals were very tame.  In the small pond I saw fish and frogs.  I was afraid when the farmer showed us the bees near the hive. My brother and I ran across the field when we saw all the animals.  We had fun riding the donkey.  At noon were ere hungry and the farmer’s wife gave us some food to eat.  The farmer’s dog had a litter of puppies.  I had fun on the farm and I would like to go again.

My haunted house.

I was reading a book when I fell asleep.  I dreamt that I lived in a haunted house surrounded by spider webs, creaky floor boards, ripped curtains and the paint on the ceiling all peeled off.

As I walked through the archway that led to the kitchen I saw that my uncle and aunt were waiting for me at the table.

As I was eating my porridge, Aunt Tabby stood up and spoke in that voice she uses when she has decided something and she does not care whether you agree with her or not.  She suddenly said that we were selling this house.  I could not believe it.  After breakfast I went into my room and I was thinking about what Aunt Tabby had said.  As I looked down from my window, I saw an estate agent all dressed in a fiery blue suit.  I did not want Aunt Tabby to sell the house so I got a bowl of water and dropped it on the estate agent.  BULL’S EYE!!!1 the estate agent ran into his car and drove off.  As I was going through the hallway I saw a small crack in the wall and in that crack there was a long brass key.  I knew what kind of key it was. It was a key to a secret passage.  After lunch I went to look for a secret door.  Down in the basement I found a key hole in the wall and when I put in the key it fitted perfectly.  I went inside the secret passage.  There were cob webs everywhere and the secret passage was made of bricks.  I walked for a long time.  Then I came face to face with a dull green light.  After a very short while, I realised that this green light was none other than Edmund, the friendly ghost.  Just then I heard Aunt Tabby say, “Won’t Catriona be surprised when she finds out that very friendly people have come to buy our house.  Then I had a plan.  I could lay an awful ambush but I would need Edmund’s help.  I went to get these Things: jelly goo, bats, spiders and cobwebs.  When the people came over, we got everything ready and as they stepped on the doorstep, we let everything loose.  It was amazing.  Aunt Tabby came to me and asked me why I had done this and I told her that I did not want her to sell the house.  Then the people who had come to see the house told us that they still wanted to buy the house, despite the fact that they had been attacked by all sorts of strange creatures.  I suggested that we all live together so that we will all be happy.  Luckily they all agreed.

Just then I heard my mother calling me for breakfast.  When I went to the kitchen, I told my mother all about the strange dream I had.  I liked the old house in my dream so much that when I grow up  I would like to live in a similar one.

My classmates

At Little Angels School, there is only one Junior 5 class and since there are quite a few of us, we have a large classroom. At our school, there are both girls and boys.

We all come from different villages and we all like each other but we all have our best friends.  Some of us look older than they actually are while others look younger.  We all like Maths but our favourite subject is Science. Luckily we all agree on this.  Our teacher has taught us that we need to help each other and that we have to work together.  That is why we are a very good class.

Our characters are all different some of us are noisy while others are quiet.  We all have good and bad qualities in our character.  Most of us tend to do quite well in examinations.  When we do not study or when we do not present good work, or teacher gets cross at us.

At break, we go out to play.  Very often we all play together but some of the children like to stay alone.  After school, some of us like to meet each other and we go to play at the playground and sometimes, when it is raining, we stay inside and do our homework.

We all like each other but I am a little bit worried that we will not be all together in senior school.  At present we are in Junior 5 and we only have one more year to go in junior school.  I hope that I will be with some of my friends in senior school and that we will have a great time like we have at this school.

Shark bite

I was reading a book when suddenly I fell asleep and dreamt that I was at the beach, just like the boy in the book.  What happened to the boy in the book happened to me.

It was a nice hot, sunny day and I was playing on the sand with a spade, bucket and some water.  After some time, I got bored playing on the sand so I decided to go for a swim.  I ignored the red flag of the life guard.  I was having fun swimming in the cool water.  Suddenly, from miles away, I saw a black fin.  At first, I did not mind as it was still far away.  I kept on enjoying myself swimming.  All of a sudden, I saw the shark in front of me.  I tried doing  my best to keep swimming fast and get away from it but as you all know, sharks are very fast swimmers. After a while, the shark caught my leg and tore it like you would tear a paper off a copybook.  After a couple of minutes which seemed like hours, five lifeguards made their way towards me.  Three of them caught the shark and the other two helped me to the shore.  They took me to my parents who got a terrible shock when they saw the state I was in.  They quickly phoned the ambulance and after some time I was taken to hospital.  I was told that my leg had to be in plaster for a long time.  I did not really like this as that meant that I would not be able to move much.  At least I was lucky that I still had a leg and that I was still alive.

Just when I thought I was leaving the hospital, dragging my heavily plastered leg, I opened my eyes and realised that I was still on the sofa.  I realised that I had fallen asleep while reading my book. I had been enjoying my book and the dream so much that I decided to continue reading a little bit longer.

Drawwiet Antiki Maltin.

Kien hemm bosta drawwiet antiki li llum hafna minnhom inqatghu u saru biss parti mill-folklor Malti. Dan sar minhabba l-fatt illi l-bniedem matul iz-zmien inbidel jew avvanza.  It-tfal ta’ dak iz-zmien kienu attivi hafna.  Is-subien kienu jilghabu l-bocci, waqt li l-bniet jilghabu biz-zibeg.  Kien hemm aktar minn loghba wahda. Per ezempju, l-passju, noli, il-pupi tac-carruta u l-ballun tac-carruta.  It–tfal kienu jiehdu gost l-aktar jilghabu fit-toroq ghax dak iz-zmien ma kienx hawn karozzi.

L-Ikel ukoll kien differenti.  Fil-Milied kienu jieklu l-imbulljuta u l-ixkumvat.  Fl-Ghid, kienu jieklu l-figolli.  Dan l-ikel ghadek issibu f’xi nhawi u hafna nies qeghdin jippruvaw jergghu iqajjmu dawn it-tradizzjonijiet.  Fil-passat in-nies kienu jieklu aktar ikel bnin ghax kienu jieklu aktar haxix u frott frisk li jitkabbar Malta u mhux jimpurtaw kollox ippakkjat minn pajjizi ohra.

L-Ilbies ukoll kien mod iehor.  M’ghadekx tara’ nisa’ lebsin l-ghonnella, li kienet libsa kbira sewda li kienu jilbsu n-nisa’ kollha ta’ kull klassi socjali.  In-nisa’ kienu ukoll jilbsu l-velu meta jmorru l-knisja.

Xi drawwiet ohra kienu jinkludu il-bir biex itellghu l-ilma u jzommu l-ikel kiesah, il-kenur biex isajru, il-lampi tal-pitrolju biex jaghmlu d-dawl minnflok l-elettriku.

Hafna minn dawn id-drawwiet juru illi l-bniedem ghamel progress izda xi ftit minnhom halleweffett negattiv fuq il-bniedem, bhal nuqqas ta’ ezercizzju u ikel mhux daqstant bnin. Ghalhekk ghandna nharsu lejn id-drawwiet antiki li kienu ta’ gid ghall-missirijietna u nitghallmu minnhom.

Dear Parents, students and friends,

Welcome to our first newsletter for this scholastic year.  This year we embarked on a number of new and exciting projects for our students, some of which you will read about in this Newsletter

Art and Craft with Kamra Tal-Periti.

Every Tuesday, all Junior 4 and Junior 5 students are following a programme conducted by architect Gina de La Motte.  During these sessions, the students under the guidance of Ms.Gina, and with the help of their class teachers Ms.Julie and Ms.Censina, use their imagination to create buildings of their choice using a variety of materials.  They will be taught how to observe what is around them and learn to appreciate different styles of buildings.

Best Language Practice Award

Our school took part in this project which dealt with new and exciting ways of learning a language.  This project was conducted by our I.T. teacher Ms.Josephine and involved the present Junior 6 students. This project took place last scholastic year and last October, Georg Zammit and Matthew Attard from Junior 6 represented their class at the award ceremony.

Dinja Wahda

Our school got the Gold Award for the 6th time.  This award is given to all those schools that incorporate environmental awareness in their curriculum as well as embark on projects which instil in the children a sense of duty towards our environment. My Favourite television Programme

After I finish my homework and studying I like to relax a bit.  To relax, I watch television.  My favourite programme on TV is “StarQuiz”.  This is a quiz in which kids compete to win prices.  The programme is on air every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at seven in the evening.  All three programmes are repeated on Saturday and Sunday.  “Starquiz” is presented by Ryan Foster and Marie Milner.

The programme starts like this. The presenters chose two children from the audience to compete against each other.  The first challenge is a music challenge.  Then there is the sports challenge and finally the brain challenge.  The aim of this programme is to make children more self-confident.

I like this programme because it is educational and it is suitable for children my age.

November

November is the eleventh month of the year.  It has one of the greatest feasts of al saints.

In this month, the days get shorter.  Many animals start to gather food for their long winter sleep.  This month is in autumn and the weather starts getting colder.  In November, lots of leaves start to shed.  The closer December gets, the more rainy days we have.  This means we have to wear warmer clothes and sometimes put heaters in our rooms.

In November we celebrate three feasts which are All Saints day on the first of November, All Souls Day on the second of November and St.Martin on the eleventh.  My favourite is St.Martin, which is celebrated in the village where I live, Bahrija.  The church gives very child a bag filled with sweet bread, nuts and fruit.

In November my mum starts to make decorations for Christmas.  My mum also likes to make the family a St.Martin cake.

I like this season because of the great fireworks that there are on the feast day of St.Martin but most of all for the love that is shared during this season which is close to Christmas.

Animals

There is an uncountable amount of different kinds of animals and they are all God’s creations.

Animals can be small like the ants and big like elephants.  Some are wild and others are tame.  Each and every wild animal must hunt for food.  There are domestic animals that we can keep as pets and take care of them ourselves.  These kinds of animals can be dogs, cats, birds, fish, hamsters and many more.  Sometimes, domestic animals are not treated with love. Some owners are cruel and when they get fed up looking after their animals, they just chuck them out in the streets on their own.

Some farm animals provide us with food like the cow which gives us meat and milk.  The chicken gives us eggs and meat, while the pigs provide us with ham and bacon.

In the wild, many animals are becoming extinct as many people hunt them for their skins.  We cannot forget circus animals which are used to supposedly entertain human beings.  These animals have to go through a lot of suffering to be able to master the tricks they have to do in their circus acts.

Animals make us feel very happy when we are sad and in my opinion all living creatures are and should be man’s best friend.

Antonio Polidano Vella. Junior 6.

Imagine that you are a chair.

Once upon a time I was a very special tree. I used to talk to the animals around me,   they were my best friends.  But one day a man came with a saw and chopped me down.  After that I was taken to a factory where there were a lot of machines and men shouting.  Then I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep, hoping that when I wole up it will all be over.

Two days later I opened my eyes and saw that I was not a tree anymore.  I was a chair. I was very sad.  Then I saw that I was taken to a shop and a price was put on me.  It said: price for one of a kind chair Euro 160.  After a few days people looked at me and ignored me but there was an old lady who took me in her arm, paid the shopkeeper and then took me to her house.  It was a very nice house.  She put me n a carpet next to a fire place, sat on me and started knitting.  Every week she dusted me and every year I was painted a different colour.  She had a cat that used to sit on me and I used to tell him about the animals and trees back when I was in the wild.  I stayed at this house for years and then one day the old woman died.  I was still in very good condition so they sold me to this rich lady who always loved me.  She loved me so much that her servants were never allowed to dust me themselves.  She always dusted me herself.  After years I was sold to many different people who loved me and looked after me.  Now I am in a house where a lady and her daughter live.  Her daughter always takes care of me and I love this girl a lot.  I don’t know what is going to happen to me in the future but I hope that whoever will own me will always take care of me like all my previous owners.

My Toys.

I have many toys.  I put my toys in a big box.  Most of them are new and some of them are old.  I never leave my toys lying about.  My favourite toy is a small truck.  I play with my small truck whenever I have time.  My oldest toy is a soft toy dog.  My mother bought it for me when I was four years old.  I take my soft toy dog with me to bed.  I also have some cars and a small motor bike.  The cars and the motor bike are almost new. I enjoy playing with my toys and will never get rid of any of them.

My Cat.

My cat’s name is Blacky.  Blacky has a coat of soft black fur.  I give him water every day.  He loves drinking milk and water.  Then he purrs to show that he is happy.  He often runs after butterflies in our garden.  Then he sits in a sunny spot there and washes his face with his soft paws.  His claws are very sharp but he does not scratch me.  Blacky keeps mice away from the house.

My Imaginary Classroom.

My class is huge.  It has glass walls and money floors.  From the shiny glass we can see Ghadira Bay and on the other side, we can see a mountain with skiers on the snow.  We have robots to give us work while Ms.Shabohabalabadingdong, relaxes in the swimming pool and spa.  Sometimes we hear ghosts knocking on the glass walls.  Instead of a whiteboard, we have an interactive whiteboard.  We also have a huge, shiny swimming pool.  Our classroom is on the twentieth floor.  It is airconditioned for the summer and heated in winter.  Sometimes it is visited by ghosts, Draculas, zombies, witches, bats and skeletons.  When it is somebody’s birthday, our robots make sure that everything is perfect for our enjoyment and to make us as comfortable as possible.  We also have a section where we keep our pets and our guitars as well.  Ok Then, this is all my imagination!! Although I would like to have a classroom like I described here, I still like my real classroom.

Raquel Sammut. Junior 4

My Fantasy Classroom.

My classroom is very big. It is on the first floor of the school.  The floor is very tidy.  The classroom is transparent.  The view from its windows is very beautiful.  I can see the sea as well as a very high mountain. There is a light blue desk in the middle of the classroom which our teacher, Ms.Caroline, works on.  We have a library on the right side of the room.  We have two fans which we only use during summer.  We also have an interactive whiteboard which we use for our activities.  I like this classroom a lot because it has a nice view and it is always tidy.

A Child’s Prayer.

Will you hug me Mummy?

Will you wrap me in your arms

And press your face to mine

And whisper happy memories in my ear.

For when shadows dance around me

And I feel alone in the dark,

I need to recall your gentle touch

And know that you are near.

Will you hold me Daddy?

Will you take my hand

And weave strong fingers into mine,

And tell me how you love me.

For when monsters invade my dreams

And I feel helpless and afraid,

I need to remember your powerful hands

And feel your strong protection.

The Birthday Party.

My Birthday is in September.  I had a party and invited all my friends.  Everyone was very excited.  We decorated the house with lots of colourful balloons and streamers. My mum made a chocolate cake while my dad cooked the food and prepared the drinks.  All my friends came to the party and everyone brought me presents.  Then we started eating and the food was very tasty, especially the cake which was delicious.  There were eight candles on it. After we ate everything we started to play with toys and games.  While we were playing we listened to loud music.  After that the magician arrived.  He did lots of tricks.  My favourite was when he pulled a rabbit out of the hat.  I really enjoyed this party.

I go to catch the school bus.  On the school bus I meet my friends.  I laugh at their jokes.  Sometimes I share my sweets with them.  I enjoy going to school.

Richard’s worst day

In the middle of the forest, in a wooden cottage, there lived a young poor boy called Richard.  This boy lived with his loving grandpa and grandma because the other members of the family had died in the deadly tornado a year before.

One day black, dark, thick clouds covered the forbidden forest. Richard was the first to say that it was going to be a stormy day but as he finished a spark of lightning hit the kitchen window and it broke. Merciless winds blew left and right in the forest and cottage. It looked as if the cottage was going to fly away like a kite in the sky and the trees already were being uprooted. After some time the cottage started to crack and break until the roof flew in the air and the wind even blew Richard out of the cottage and out of the forest.  He landed in a strange town.  When he landed, he looked around. He was a lost boy and a really lost boy indeed.  Luckily a nurse wearing a white hat ran towards him and took him to the nearby hospital. Days and weeks passed while Richard was in hospital.  After some time, his grandparents came to see him.  They brought him a brand new bicycle to cheer him up.  When he went out of hospital, they all had to live with an old man until the cottage was rebuilt.  When the cottage was ready, they went there and prayed that they would never experience another storm.

Ma nergax nersaq lejn dak il-post.

Meta kienu l-btajjel tas-sajf, jien staqsejt l-ommi lil ommi biex immure s’ghand shabi.  Meta jien kont fit-triq rajt dar kbira w qadima hdejn cimiterju.  Qabditni l-kurzita w ddecidejt nidhol fiha.

F’din id-dar qadima, kien hemm affarijiet antiki w fuq l-affarijiet kollha kien hemm hafna ghanqbut.  Fil-kamra zghira kien hemm mara xiha liebsa l-abjad u kienet qed tahdem il-bizzilla. Meta din ratni, qaltli Bongu, w qaltli biex nidhol hdejha. Bdiet titkellem fuq kompozituri famuzi.  Hi qaltli li hi kienet hbieb ma’ Tchaikowsky u hi kienet ballerina. Hi tatni ktieb tal-ballet.

Saghtejn wara indunajt li kien sari l-hin biex inkompli fi triqti lejn id-dar ta’ shabi. Jien ghidtilha sahha w meta kont sejra nigri minn hdejn ic-cimiterju rajt qabar miftuh.  Fuq il-qabar kien hemm ritratt tal-madonna w tahtha kien hemm ritratt ta’ mara bl-isem Maria Grech 1922-2006.  Jien kont tkellimt ma’ hares.

Jien zgur minix ser nerga nersaq lejn dan il-post.

At the seaside in Summer.

In summer, I love going to the seaside.  I go with my mother, sister, my cousin and my aunt. I like the seaside because it is calm, relaxing and peaceful.  The sun burns more than ever in the wonderful blue sky.  The sea is calm and cool.  You can see fishermen fishing in colourful boats. There are people and children playing in the sea and building sandcastles on the beach.  In summer a lot of people go to the seaside because this is where they can cool off from the summer heat.  You can even hear the ice-cream man.  There are children with ice-cream dripping from their hands.  The sea shines like a beautiful pool of diamonds.  Summer is the season I prefer because I can enjoy the seaside almost every day.  I wish that it will be summer all the year round.

My Grandma

My grandma’s name is Maria.  She is sixty years old and she is my father’s mum.  She lives in Paola.  Nanna Maria lives in a big house with a small yard.  There is a tiny playroom where my cousins and I love to play.  My grandma has green eyes and short dark brown hair.  Grandma enjoys cooking for all the family.  Grandma is kind hearted and never gives up.  She has five grandchildren and three children of her own.  She really takes good care of us, like she used to do with her children, my father, Sandro and my aunts Christine and Denise.  She used to work as a social worker.  On Sundays my family and I visit grandma and meet all my cousins there. Grandma has three sisters and four brothers.  She is one of the eldest sisters so she had to help my great grandma all the time.  Sometimes, she comes for me at school together with grandpa as she does not drive. My grandpa Edwin is sixty three years old.  I love my grandma a lot and I know that she loves me a lot too.

Breaktime with my friends.

At breaktime, mostly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays my teacher takes us out to play in a yard near our school.  My friends and I like to go there as we can play. This yard, which is close to an old church, is not very far away from our school.  It does not take us long to walk there.  We go out to play in this yard when it is sunny as when it is cloudy or about to rain, we remain at school. When we get there, we always play the same game “catch” as it is our favourite game.  I am sure that everyone enjoys playing in the yard as there is a lot of space for everyone to play.  When we go to the yard, there will be another class or two with us.  These are the Junior 5s and the Junior 6s.  In this way, my teacher, Ms.Julie, will have company.  I like this yard a lot and I hope that my teachers will not decide to take us somewhere else to play.  I like this place because there are benches where we can sit and a small garden with olive trees around.  In this garden there are also beautiful flowers. I enjoy going to play in this yard a lot as there is a lot of space for us to run and have fun.

ARBOR DAY ACTIVITIES

On Monday, 19th January the Junior 2s and Junior 3s went to Buskett to take part in an activity organised by Arbor.  The main aim of this activity was that after collecting acorns, the children were shown how to sow and care for the seedlings.  The children then sowed the acorns in pots at school. Later on, throughout the year, we will send these pots to be planted at the Government Farm in Ghammieri, Marfa or Foresta 2000.  The Junior 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s collected the sum of Euro 84 which was used to buy more olive trees for the school. The Magic Soup Pot

Once there was a man who never paid his bills.  He was always buying things for himself and never shared with others.  Once he was walking down the lane and he saw a shop which sold kitchen things.  He went inside and saw the most lovely things.  He asked the shop keeper if he had a soup pot.  He showed him a silver soup pot.  He told him that it cost only ten pounds.  That was a reasonable price but Mr.Charles said, “Can I pay you weekly?” “I will pay you a pound a week.” The shopkeeper agreed and took the one pound. He went home with the nice soup pot.  When he got home, he put it on the table.  He got everything he could find in his kitchen like turkey legs, carrots, spinach, broccoli and lots more.  He threw everything in the soup pot, put it on the stove and set the timer for 10 minutes.  After 10 minutes he returned to see if the soup was ready but when he looked inside the pot, all the ingredients had vanished.  He looked under the pot, everywhere but he couldn’t find the soup.  He looked outside and saw that all the people had bowls of soup in their hands.  He asked a little boy from where he had got the soup and the boy said that while waiting for his mother to feed him, his bowl had suddenly filled itself with soup.  Mr.Charles offered to pay the little boy a pound for the bowl of soup.  The boy happily agreed and after handing the soup bowl to Mr.Charles, he ran away.  On his way home, he met the owner of the store from where he had bought the soup pot.  The shop owner asked him if he could have the rest of the money he was owed.  Mr.Charles immediately told the shop owner that he thought that the pot was cursed.  He told him all about his happenings.  Mr.Charles asked the shopowner if he knew anything about this strange soup pot.  “Ah, I see that the magic soup pot is at it again.  You have to pay up all your bills if you would like the soup pot to stop doing this.  It is only after you have paid everybody that the soup pot will stop.”

Mr.Charles paid the shop owner for the soup pot and went back to his kitchen.  He looked in all his drawers to find all his bills.  He paid them all up to the very last one which was only a bill for one cent.  After he found his last cent in his wallet and paid this last bill, Mr.Charles decided to make himself some soup once again.

This time he enjoyed his delicious soup as the ingredients remained in the pot.  The magic soup pot had taught him a lesson.  If he ever owes money to anyone, he has to pay them back.

Invisible for one day

It was 7 o’clock on a Friday morning.  My mum and dad were not at home.  When I woke up, I went downstairs and had breakfast.  Then I went to watch television.  While I was watching television, I heard the door being closed.  There, in front of me were three witches.  When I saw them I went to hide.  But they still saw me and they made me invisible.

The witches did not stay there for long.  When they left, I was very excited that I was invisible.  I was thinking of going to school.  When I went there I went to the office of our Head of school.  As the exams were approaching, there were all the papers on the desk.  I immediately thought of taking them to photocopy them so that I would not have to study much.  After this adventure, I decided to go back home but on the way, I passed by a market and  I decided to take some things which I found on the different stalls, such as sweets, fruit and vegetables as well as some toys.  As I was invisible, no-one could see me taking the things.

When I had taken enough things, I went back home.  I realised that the witches had returned.  They were sitting on the edge of our roof top.  I quickly got in and closed the door.  I felt safe inside.  When night came, the witches managed to get inside the house but this time I was not scared.  They asked me if I wanted to remain invisible or if I would like to go back to my usual shape.  I told them that I wanted to go back to my old self.  All of a sudden I was back to normal.  After that I slept and when I woke up, I thought that I had dreamt everything but I hadn’t as I saw the test papers on my bedside table.

My Friend.

I have a lot of friends, not only at school, even abroad, but my best friend is Xeviene. Xeviene is a kind, friendly nine year old boy who loves to joke.

He has brown hair and brown eyes and wears glasses.  Xeviene lives in Valletta and sometimes I go to visit him.  Sometimes, on Saturday, I call him to meet up in Bugibba.  We have a lot of fun together.  His favourite food is pizza and his favourite hobby is jogging.  In Spring he goes walking in the countryside and it is not the first time that he comes back with wild flowers or plants.  In Summer we go by the sea side and go swimming too. In Autumn, we like to go for walks and jump on the fallen leaves.  Sometimes we even build castles out of leaves.  Well, in Winter, we do not meet often because it rains and it is very cold.

Friends keep you company, they help you and they make you feel happy when you are down.  Not all friends stay with you for life but I wish that Xeviene will.

My Grandmother

My grandmother’s name is Mary and she is a smart lady.  She is seventy-four years old, has blondish hair and also wears glasses.

She lives in Qormi, otherwise known as Citta Pinto.  She lives with my grandfather and my uncle who happens to be my father’s twin brother. The first thing she does in the morning is to hear Mass.  Afterwards, she goes shopping for groceries.  She is a good cook and always cooks good tasting food.  Once or twice a week, she goes to swim in a pool in a hotel. She loves taking care of the beautiful flowers in her large garden because the garden is her pride and joy.  Sometimes cute kittens come to her garden and since she likes kittens very much, she enjoys taking care of them.  Grandma Mary is always eager to see us every Sunday afternoon and she prepares food and drinks for us and never lets us leave without a slice of her delicious chocolate cake.

Grandma Mary is very generous, kind and helpful person and everybody loves her.

My Three best wishes.

Last week my uncle invited me for a picnic.  We went to Ta’ Qali  and we took our dog Sammy with us who needed some fresh air.

There were many people and children walking their dogs, so I decided to join. My dog Sammy started to pull me as if he was trying to take me somewhere.  We went behind a bush at the very far end of the picnic ground.  We found a removable rock and underneath it we saw a lit up passage.  Sammy started to bark but I moved even further into the unknown and at the end we found a lamp which was concealed in a glass box.  I remembered what Aladdin had done in the film.  So I tried rubbing the lamp but nothing happened, Talking to it didn’t help much either.  Then I dropped it by mistake and a blue smoke in the shape  of a person came out.  He told me that his name was Aladun, the brother of Aladin.

He gave me three wishes and told me that if ever I was in need or in danger I just had to wish something and he will make the wish come true.  In the next three days I changed some things.  These three wishes were that I would have a new spy bot which is a small robot that could hear, record and see everything.

The next day I wished that I would have no homework for the rest of the  year and the last wish was to make all the poor children not die of hunger.

I think that these three wishes were the best three wishes I could ever wish for.

My Bicycle

My bicycle is three months old.  My aunt gave it to me for my seventh birthday. It has two side wheels.  My bicycle is bright blue.  It has a small shiny bell.  Sometimes I go for a ride on it in a garden in Attard.  I enjoy riding my bicycle.  I ride it very often.  I keep it in the hall at our house.  When I ride it I always wear a helmet.

My new bicycle

I have a brand new bicycle.  It was given to me by my parents as a Christmas present.  The bicycle is bright red.  Behind the seat there is a blue, plastic saddle-bag and there is a small shiny bell on the handlebars.  Every morning I ride my bicycle down the road behind the block.  On Saturdays, my father takes me to the park to enjoy the fresh air.  At the park, I ride my bicycle with my friends and we really have fun.  All my friends like my bicycle.  I look after my bicycle.  I keep it safe in the garage.  I clean my bicycle every week.  I enjoy riding my bicycle.

Attacked by a creature from outer space.

Last year it happened on a very foggy, cold misty night.  I was attacked by a mysterious space being (you could almost say it was an alien, but not the type of alien we normally imagine.)

I was striding down the main street towards the village square, which was quiet and empty, quite deserted.  Suddenly, when I was halfway down the road, I was blinded by a very bright yellow-greenish light.  There was the enormous throb of an engine.  I was held tight by a powerful steel talon-like object and I felt myself being hoisted up from the ground like a feather being lifted on a finger.  I wriggled, kicked, bit, punched and performed some well done karate moves but all in vain.

Once in the shuttle, I was trapped in a vise-like grip in the hands (well, you could say claws) of a blue thing.  When my focus cleared and I could see better, I was standing up with my hands bound together by some thick type of thread.  When I felt the material, it reminded me of the nylon-silk ropes that binds ships to the harbour.

But before I had a chance to feel what bound me, a monstrous blue and gold thing appeared before me.  It spoke in a deep booming voice that echoed round the huge steel covered room we were in.  The creature’s head was that of a tiger, his body of an iguana and his hands, tail and feet of a crocodile.  His body had a blueish colour to it so it made it look like it was made of UV rays.  He spoke quickly to other creatures like him in some typed of language (probably Martian) and they all advanced towards me.  I knew this was risky but if I ever wanted to see my friends, family, etc, I needed to act fast.  My ropes were not too tight and I tried to wriggle my hands out of them.  It was laborious, back-breaking work but I didn’t care; now it was the time to act.

I sprang into action jumped on one of the monsters, knocked it out, took the gun-like thing they were pointing at me and started firing in every direction.  I don’t know what happened then, all I saw was a large puff of white mist.  I sprinted towards the only door I could see clearly, opened it, jumped and lay sprawled on the earth ground.

I ran like a mad man back to my house and crashed inside.  From the back-door window I could see the tiny little speck of light which was the shuttle. It was a harrowing experience.  I hope I’ll never have to encounter another experience like that! I don’t want to even think about it!

THE LITTLE TIMES

Little Angels School

Newsletter No. 17

Website: www.littleangelsschool.com

Dear Parents, students and friends,

Welcome to our first newsletter for this scholastic year.  At school we are already doing a lot of interesting activities, some of which you will read about in this Newsletter.

Comenius Project.

This exciting and very interesting project is in its third and final year.  During the first term of this scholastic year we are tackling architecture in Malta.  The children took photos of Old and Modern buildings and also found some information about these buildings.  All this work was presented to our partner schools in the form of a power point presentation which the Junior 5 and 6 students prepared during the IT lesson as well as in a brochure format.  The Junior 1s and2s made various colouring in pictures of old and modern buildings.  The Junior 3s and 4s did collages of old and modern buildings.  All this work was exchanged with our partner schools during a meeting which was held in Budapest, Hungary.   Later on throughout this term, we will be making 3 dimensional models of old and modern buildings which we will then post to our partner schools.

DINJA WAHDA

This year we have once again won the Gold Award.  This is the fifth time that we won this award.  This award is given to all those schools that incorporate environmental awareness in their curriculum as well as embark on projects which instil in the children a sense of duty towards our environment.

Christmas Concert.

This year our Christmas Concert is going to be held on the 12th December at St.Aloysius College.  The exact time will be announced later.  All the school will be taking part.

Cultural Outings.

This term the Junior 1s and Junior 2s will be going to St.James’ Cavalier (Tell me a story session), the Junior 3s will be going to a town, Mosta and a village, Mgarr, the Junior 4s will be going to a Fire Station, the Junior 5s will be going to Mdina (Domus Romane, Knights of Malta, Medieval Times and Mdina Experience and the Junior 6s will be going to Valletta (St.John’s Co-Cathedral and The Malta Experience).

Sedqa Course

During this term we organised a Personal and Social Development course for all Junior 5 students. This course consisted of 5 sessions and was conducted by a sedqa representative.  This course was followed by a onetime session for parents which was also conducted by a representative of Sedqa.

Parental Skills Programme.

During this term, along with Sedqa, we are also organising a parental skills programme.  This programme will consist of 6 two-hour sessions, which will be held at the school.

Talk for students in Junior 6

The Occupational Health and Safety Authority will be conducting a one-hour session during which the children will be guided through an educational video, which will try to instil a healthy culture from a young age and raise a more occupational health and safety conscious future work force.

CHILDREN’S WORK

A day in the life of a bird

Hello, my name is Zig and I am about to tell you about my life as a bird after somehow I had been freed.

It was a fine sunny day and my owner, Francis, who was a gentle, old man, opened my cage and pit hid finger in for me to hop on.  I did so and he patted me gently and walked to the back door which led to the garden.  There was a table filled with bird seeds and he left me there.  He watched as I pecked some into my mouth. I flew about chirping with astonishment at how large the outside world was! I turned back to see that Francis was waving to me as he turned back in and stared at me from behind the window.

I kept on flying about to meet another bird.  He wasn’t my type but I thought that making friends wasn’t a bad idea.  By this time I had forgotten about Francis and I chirped happily to the other bird as a sign of friendship.  He agreed and welcomed me to his nest, minutes later, we were flying above the countryside.  I wasn’t used to flying, but I found out that it was fantastic to fly with such liberty.  As we flew high, chirping in the bright sunny day, I spotted the many fields and other places.  I saw children playing merrily together and other birds whizzing freely in the breeze.

Afterwards, I saw my friend landing on a branch. I too did so and he led me to another nest with three more birds in it.  He introduced me and I was greeted warmly to the nest where I continued telling them about my indoor life and explained how I was freed.  They gazed at me astounded, to hear about my past, for they had never known what living indoors meant.

Time passed and I remembered about all the seeds on the bird table.  I told them about Francis and how he took care of me and they were surprised to hear that humans could be friends with birds.  I invited them to come with me to visit Francis and after some time they agreed to come along with me.

There he was, gazing in the sky hoping to see me again.  Then he smiled speechless to see that I had returned with four more birds.

What a life being a bird....and what fun it was to see Francis again along with my new friends!!!

My two Parrots.

I have two parrots and their names are Gina and Jimmy. Their colours are white, light blue, green and yellow.  They like to eat bits of carrots and apples but their favourite food is bird food.  They sing every day when I put them out in my balcony.  They like to be kept clean in their cage.  They like to play with their toys.  They like staying in their cage and they look at me whenever I move about in the house.  I love my two parrots very much.

Bianca Micoara.  Junior 3

Myself

I am a boy and my name is Miguel Micallef.  I am seven years old.  I live in a big house in Naxxar.  I don’t have any brothers or sisters.  I have brown eyes and brown hair.  I am a little bit short for my age. My favourite colour is blue.  I am scared of spiders and ghosts.  I like to play football.  My friend is Andrew and I like to play with him.  When I grow up I would like to work with my father.

My Cat.

My cat is called Fluffy.  He is two years old.  My cat likes to play with a squeaky toy.  He purrs to show that he is happy. Fluffy is brown in colour.  His tongue is pink.  His claws are very sharp but he doesn’t scratch me.  He washes his face with his paws.  He likes to sit by the fire place or in a sunny spot.  Fluffy keeps mice away from the house.  I love my cat Fluffy very much.

Neil Brincat.  Junior 3.

My favourite toy.

I have lots of toys but my favourite toy is a toy shuttle.  My grandmother gave it to me when I was sick.  I think that this toy was not very expensive as otherwise my grandma would not have bought it.  I play with it by pretending that it is going to another planet.  I pretend that it will be going to Mars.  I enjoy imagining that it crash lands on Mars.  I do this on my bed so that it will not break. If one of my friends joins me we take it in turns to play but when they do not come I play with it on my own. I prefer to play on my own because I will be free to play for as long as I wish and however I wish.  I am very happy with my toy and I hope that it will never break.

Neil Buttigieg. Junior 4.

A day in the life of a bird.

I was a vicious falcon with brown eyes and white feathers.  I loved flying and hunting insects and fish.  I also preyed on dead animals.  I also loved the sea and the wilderness.

Anyway, I was going over a town where I saw a man with a long tool that had a hole pointing at me.  All of a sudden I heard a bang and I noticed that something was heading towards me.  I also heard another bird saying, “duck now!”  I ducked my head and something passed right next to it. I was very frightened.  When I arrived at my nest I was safe and sound.  My mum said that the tool was called a gun and that the man was there to kill me and eat me up.

On the same day I wondered off with my brother and sisters to hunt for food.

We approached a dead animal and we started eating from it but, all of a sudden a pride of lions roared with anger.  My heart was beating fast.  I flew as high as I could.  I needed to escape my second attacker of the day.

This was a terrible experience for one day.  The world was not as beautiful as it looked.  I felt a lot safer with my family.  I was one of four falcons and my parents made me feel safe.

CHILDREN’S WORK.

Imagine you were invisible for a day.  Relate what happens.

I remember last year very well.  It was the third of June, a very hot day.  My dad, who is a scientist, one day decided to take me to work with him.  It was a bit scary looking at all those test tubes and chemicals.  Suddenly something went horribly wrong.

Someone in the laboratory put the wrong chemicals in the tube.  I realised that there was a lot of smoke.  Everyone went rushing out, screaming, pulling dad out too.  I was scared, very scared.  Once I opened my eyes, all the smoke had disappeared, just like my body.  Soon I knew why, I was standing on something, a broken tube with something grey in it.  I went out of the door but nobody was there, I found dad outside, hoping for a miracle.  When I spoke to him everyone ran away, thinking they had created a monster.  My dad was shocked when there was a voice out of nowhere but soon he understood everything.  He said the effect of the chemical would be off in twenty-four hours.  So I went, having fun.  First I went to swim in a public pool without paying, and then I went to school and changed my marks from seventy to ninety.  Then I decided to help someone.  I stopped a bully from taking a boy’s lunch and I stopped a robbery by taking the robbers’ bags when they were running out.

When I had been invisible for nearly twenty four hours I went to my dad and I turned back to a normal human being.

I tell this story to everyone but nobody believes me.  I even wrote a book, I called it the “Invisible accident”.

Jodie Piccinino.  Junior 5.

Having to go.

It’s my final year in this school.

I’ll miss it very much.

All the teachers that have taught me,

had the magic touch.

I don’t know what I’d do without all my friends

but I will remember them till the end.

I’ll miss all the subjects, like music and P.E.

Next to these,  all future lessons won’t be a cup of tea.

I’LL have nothing but memories, next year and after that.

But maybe I’ll see my friends again and maybe have a chat.

Daniel Briffa. Junior 6.

The Garden.

The garden next to my house is very big and I like to go there for a walk.  I often take my kite with me.  In the garden there is a pond with turtles.  Once I saw a nest with some baby birds on the branch of a big tree in this garden.  In the garden there are many bushes too.  There are also rows of flower beds.  The beautiful butterflies keep flitting among the lovely flowers.  There are many tall trees.  There are also some stoned benches under the shade of the trees.  I like to go to this garden to play and to enjoy the fresh air.

Neville Azzopardi.  Junior 3.

My Home Town.

I live in Siggiewi.  Siggiewi is quite a big village.  I live in an old house in the centre of Siggiewi.  Thhe centre is the oldest part of the village and there are many old houses.  Our village is a very busy place.  There is a big public school.  There are no gardens in Siggiewi and I wish there was one where I could go to play.  There is a big playing field.  In our village, we need to have more car parks.  We also need more street lamps.  Siggiewi is very tidy and the people are very proud of their village.

Simona Gauci.  Junior 3.

Bedtime.

My mother usually tells me it is bedtime.  She says, “Come on Neil, it’s time to go to bed or you will be tired for school in the morning”.  I take off my clothes and put on my pyjamas as soon as I go to my bedroom.  I put my clothes on a chair or if they are dirty I put them in the laundry bin.  I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth.  When I get in my bed, I feel warm and comfortable.  My parents read a story as I settle in my bed.  Before I sleep I think of how much fun I had at school and at home.  Sometimes I do something funny like going under my bed and scare mum and dad.  Finally I say the bedtime prayers and then I fall fast asleep.

Neil Buttigieg.  Junior 3.

Unknown.

I do not know why?

I do not know how?

But my life is changing even now

Our bodies are growing and so is our mind

Yet still I wonder but how?

Life is flashing by me

Until one day we disappear.

Alessio Cushieri.  Junior 5.

My favourite season.

In spring everything becomes more beautiful then it already would be in winter.  You can say it is a new beginning.

Spring starts on the 21st March and ends on the 20th June.  In spring, many animals have their young, flowers bloom, trees grow their leaves, all helping beautiful nature to grow and help the world to be a better place for people and animals everywhere around the globe.

Most of our bird ventilators have birds’ nests in them.  So much activity happens in spring because in winter many creatures are asleep and then in spring they wake up from their long sleep.  We go to many picnics because if there is such lovely weather, why simply waste the free time you have watching television and doing nothing?  So many wonderful things happen in spring including the Holy Week and the wonderful feast of Easter in which we remember and celebrate the rising our Saviour Jesus Christ.  Spring is also a great season for gardeners and farmers as in spring we have nice sunshine and very good temperature for growing plants so you can see many different fruit in stalls for example kiwi, water melon, melon, pineapple, avocado, strawberry, grapes and cherries.  In spring it is very common to see some people going to public gardens such as San Anton to enjoy the beautiful sights of nature at its best.  Some people also start swimming in spring. My birthday also comes in spring.

Well, that’s all I am going to say so I guess you have to just wait till I experience more of the wonders of spring to hear more about my favourite season, spring.

Fairyland.

In a far away land called Fairyland, there lived every type of flying creature like pixies, fairies and birds.  In fairyland everyone lived happily.  There was an adventure everyday.  There were even quests to do.  In Fairyland, there was even a school called Fairy School of Magic.  Here, all fairies, goblins, pixies, birds and even children learnt how to do magic.  Once, there were two girls who lived in Fairyland who wanted to learn how to fly like their fairy friends.  The fairies gave them flying lessons and after some time the two girls even got a pair of wings and started flying around.  These two girls saved the queen of fairyland when she was kidnapped by the evil Sneevil.  When the two girls retuned the queen to Fairyland everyone started cheering, as they were all happy to see their queen again.

Li kieku kelli nsiefer safra madwar id-dinja.

Li kieku kelli nsiefer safra madwar id-dinja, zgur li l-ewwel kont immur l-Amerika, l-pajjiz li ma jorqod qatt.  L-Aktar New York fejn issib divertiment u spettaklu mill-aqwa.

Wara kont immur Disneyland f’Parigi fejn il-holm isir realta bid-divertiment u gost ghall-familja kollha.  Xenarju mill-isbah.

Ruma hija vera belt sabiha biex izzur.  Kont immur il-vatikan u nara lill-Papa jippriedka quddiem il-folol ta’ nies.  Imbaghad nara l-Kolossew fejn kienu jiggieldu l-gladjaturi mall-annimali feroci jew il-gallarija fejn kien jitkellem Benito Mussolini ma’ l-poplu tieghu.

Ic-Cina hu post sabih hafna biex tara postijiet storici u tiekol ikel tajjeb u bnin specjalment ross u xi ikel jahraq.  Nixtieq immur Boston biex nara xi loghba basketball kif jafu jilghabu huma.

Wara kont immur il-Germanja biex nara l-passatempi tieghi l-aktar biex niskejtja minn fuq xi muntanja ghal isfel.  Biex tixtri xi xirja sew tista tmur londra .  Hawnhekk tista’ tara wkoll London Eye jew il-Big Ben.

Tkun vera safra sabiha hafna biex iddur madwar id-dinja imma jrid ikollok hafna flus sew biex iddura kollha jew dawk il-postijiet biss li semmejt.

On the Mountain.

I was in my bed covered with a thick quilt.  I was reading about a person who had successfully climbed a huge mountain.  My eyes were heavy.  Suddenly, out of the blue emerged strange figures calling out my name to join them but their voices were quite familiar.  I had been shovelled into a car and was speeding away from a peculiar looking cottage.

In the semi-darkness, I realised that I was at the bottom of a massive mountain.  At the summit of the mountain were flashing lights, made by torches.  Our task was to climb the mountain to uncover the mysterious lights.  In the dim light of my half-lit lantern I could see where I was going.  I began climbing but as soon as I did so, my lantern slipped through my sweaty fingers and I was left with absolutely no light at all except for the moon and stars. I continued climbing as slow as a snail and at one point I lost my footing and was just lolling on one hand.

The little courage there was left in me had completely gone.  I tried to heave myself back on the falling rocks but my hand had slipped off the rocks and I was hurtling down the mountain, a dazzling light was switched on and my feet were numb with the fall.  I thought it was the end of the world.

I looked up into my parents’ white faces.  I sighed in relief.  Next time I will make sure that I don’t read too much before I go to sleep.

An amazing invention.

Have you ever wondered what makes modern life what it is today? The answer is technology.  Without technology, our life wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable and easy as it is nowadays.  Why is this?  This is because nowadays computers and telephones exist.

The most popular one is probably the telephone.  If Alexander Bell hadn’t invented telephones, what would have happened? Life as we know it would have been very different.

The older telephone was very different from how we know it now.  First of all, it had a receiver, which went on the side of the machine instead of on top of it.

Nowadays, we have cordless phones.  These are phones with the receiver separate from the actual machine.  Human beings have even invented a new kind of phone. This is called a mobile phone.  This is like a cordless phone which you can carry around and even text message and read emails on them.  These have developed tremendously and nowadays there are even very small phones with video-calling.  These are called 3G phones.

I am very glad that telephones were invented.  If not, I think our life would be very different.

I am a wrist watch.

I was manufactured three months in a factory that made watches.  The man who designed me called me “Super Diving Watch”. I am silver.  My face is blue and my numbers are gold.  I’ve been waiting for a day till someone will buy me and finally the day came.

It was Saturday morning and the owner of the shop opened the beautiful golden doors and a whole lot of people came to see the watches like me and some other different ones. This man was looking at me.  I thought he wouldn’t like me.  But no, I was wrong.  He asked a young lady to get me out of my box.

The lady put me in a navy blue box with my name on it.  She put me in a bag.  The man paid her and left with me.  Oh! I thought this day would finally come , I said to myself.

I found out that the man was called Harry Windsor.  I found this out as I saw his name on the receipt.  We went in this odd black thing.  I didn’t know what it was as I had never seen something like this before.  I found out it was a car.  Well, it did have a name but I do not know what it was.  Anyway, we arrived at “my new home”.  It was very nice.  He took me out of my box and put me on his wrist.  The horrible thing was that I couldn’t see anything but a silly sleeve of a shirt.

Finally, I could see again as the sleeve was no longer on my beautiful face.  He keeps looking at me to check the time. I wouldn’t dare show the wrong time or stop working.

I love my new owner, Harry so much that I will try my best to keep working hard for he needs to know the right time all the time!!

      THE LITTLE TIMES

                                    Little Angels School

                                    Newsletter  No. 15

                                     Website: www.littleangelsschool.com

Dear Parents, students and friends,

Welcome to our first newsletter for this scholastic year.  I hope that you all enjoyed your summer break.  At school we are already working on a number of projects which you will read about in this Newsletter.

Comenius Project

This exciting project is now in its second year and we have already started doing a number of activities.  The Junor 1s, 2s and 3s worked on story telling in Maltese.  They used 2 books called Pina tat is-sufan and Il-Libsa ta’ Sina.  The teachers read the stories, then the children colored pictures depicting the story and even made a collage of some of the pictures.  The 2 books as well as the artwork were given to all our partners. Our partner schools gave us their work and their books, which were all shown to our students.  The Junior 4s, 5s and 6s worked on the historical aspect of the project.  This was linked to Social Studies.  Three famous Maltese personalities from the past, Dun Mikiel Xerri, Sir Temmy Zammit and Dun Karm Psaila were chosen.  A folder was created using pictures and some information about these personalities.  This work was also given to our partner schools.  Our partner schools in turn will be giving us their work and in this way all our students will be learning some history of the countries of our partner schools. Some teachers from Hungary, Poland and England visited our school.  The Junior 4s, 5s and 6s prepared a short welcome celebration for our colleagues.

Christmas Concert

This year our Christmas Concert is going to be held on the 14th December at St.Aloysius College.  The exact time will be announced later.

Who’s that?

Who’s that laying in the corner?

Who’s that swimming in the sea?

When to open that mystery door?

With what, maybe a key?

But why do I unlock secrets?

Just for a simple prize?

Or is it for a noble quest?

That needs one more try.

But these words going on in my head longingly

Who? What? When? Where? Why?

The Weird Dragon

Once upon a time, in a far away land, there lived a dragon.  This dragon was not an ordinary dragon, as instead of shooting fire, he shot ice.

This special dragon lived in a cave in Antartica.  There are many legends about him.  This dragon likes to eat bricks of ices and people say that he can sleep for thousands of years.  It is also said that in the dragon’s cave, there are lots of diamonds.

Many Eskimos have tried to take diamonds out of the dragon’s cave, but whoever went in did not come out.

One day, an American explorer came to visit Antartica.  During his visit, he made a terrible mistake.  He went straight to the dragon’s cave.  There he was met by a horrible sight as the cave was full of frozen skeletons.  The dragon was also there but luckily he was fast asleep.

The explorer took many pictures, both of the skeletons as well as of the dragon.  But all of a sudden, right after the flash, the dragon slowly opened his eyes.  He immediately saw the intruder in his cave and roared very loudly.

The explorer was petrified and found that he could not even run…….

The dragon came closer and closer to the explorer.  Suddenly, the dragon moved his hand towards the explorer and handed him a bag full of eggs.  These were not ordinary eggs, they were dragon eggs.  The dragon looked as if he was going to die.  Suddenly he just vanished off the face of the earth.  That was the end of the dragon.  He was never heard of again.

The explorer realised that he was the only one to own these special dragon eggs.  He decided to take tham to a safe place.  When the people of the town heard that the explorer had these dargon eggs, some tried their luck at stealing them but to no avail.  The explorer had turned his hiding place into a very safe dungeon.  He fit laser alarms so that if anyone got anywhere close, a loud siren would go off.  After some time, everyone gave up trying to steal these eggs.  After studying these eggs, the explorer decided to turn them into a tourist attraction.

Nowadays, the dungeon with dinosaur eggs is a very popular tourist attraction.
