Comenius Project 2006
- 2008 |

This
exciting project is now in its second year and we have already started doing
a number of activities. The Junior 1s, 2s and 3s worked on story telling in
Maltese. They used two books called Pina taht is-sufan and Il-libsa ta Sina.
The teachers read the stories, then the children coloured the pictures
depicting the story and even made collages of some of the pictures. The two
books as well as the artwork were given to all our partners. Our partner
schools gave us their work and their books, which were all shown to our
students. The Junior 4s, 5s and 6s worked on the historical aspect of our
project. This was linked to Social Studies. Three famous personalities
from the past , Dun Mikiel Xerri, Sir Temmy Zammit and Dun Karm Psaila were
chosen. A folder was created using pictures and some information about
these personalities. This work was also given to our partner schools. Work
was exchanged amongst all the partner schools and in this way all the
students will be learning some history of the countries taking part in the
project. Some teachers from Hungary, Poland and England visited our
school. The Junior 4s, 5s and 6s prepared a short welcome celebration for
our colleagues.

Fire Drill |
|
During the Second Term we
started carrying Fire Drills at our school. We first had a talk by a
Fire Consultant who told the children all about the danger of fire, what
to do in case of fire and how to avoid fires. The Fire Consultant also
told the children about Earthquakes and what to do in case of an
Earthquake . Some days later we had a surprise fire
drill at the school so that the children and the teachers practice what
they have to do in case of a real fire. |

 sedqa Agency - B.A.B.E.S Year
3 Programme
Every year,
Sedqa Agency, in collaboration with the school, offers the BABES primary
prevention programme for year 3 students. The purpose of Babes is to
enable children to learn and practice living/loving skills and make positive
early decisions about alcohol and other drugs.
Sedqa -
trained facilitators deliver the programme, which is comprised of six
one-hour classroom sessions, once weekly. They use visual aids such as
puppets and flash cards to relate a succession of six stories. Each
story is intended to introduce a specific life skill, such as coping skills
and decision-making skills.
The Topics
discussed during this programme are the following:
We understand
that sometimes it could be difficult for parents to discuss some of these
issues with the children. In this respect, the BABES programme is a
stepping stone for the parents to engage in further learning and discussion
with the child.
